William has been nicknamed "Mr. Squirmy Wormy". This nickname came about when he started wiggling around when we took his temperature, changed his diaper, checked his vitals, and fed him. There are obviously other times when he is a sack of potatoes, however, he is gaining strength and stamina each and every day.
Our little guy seems to be growing so quickly. As of last night, he has surpassed his birth weight, weighing in at 6 lbs 4.9 oz! Also, he is up to five full feeding attempts, which we hope to accomplish today, and should be up to six tomorrow. Eight is the goal!
William has started to flash us a smile while he sleeps, or do an Elvis lip curl which always gets a laugh out of us. He is also recognizing our voices and turning his head towards us. Yesterday, during one of his diaper changings, William had his first pee pee accident. We were too busy laughing about it to prevent him from getting his clothes/bedding wet. We're sure that won't stay cute for very long.
The Infant Special Care Unit has an approximate capacity of 30 babies. Tonight, they will be down to around 20 since so many have been discharged. Because of the low number, William has gotten to bounce around to new rooms, which we don't mind. It gives us an opportunity to meet other parents and their babies, as well as nurses. We definitely have our favorite nurses and have lucked out in getting them several times. One nurse was very sweet and gave us a knit beanie for him that her mom had made. :o)
